Year 2008. A year of pain, gain, hope and change. Can this year be more memorable than any till date for this generation? It has been definitely been a tumultuous year for everyone around the globe. Below are some of the words or rather highlights that ruled the headlines all across the world.

10. Hockey Mom
Sarah Palin should be given all the credit for popularizing the phrase. Her glamor and beauty created a lot of media attention and fan following (read Zardari). She unintentionally but successfully executed the “McCain should never be a President campaign” with her natural chutzpah and lack of sensitiveness. Her degree of knowledgeability always proved that she never was worth a running mate.

9. Michael Phelps
This Aqua Torpedo ruled the Fourth Estate undoubtedly for the month of August.Newspapers’ favorite son is the undisputed champion of Swimming in this year’s Beijing Olympics. This Hip-Hop loving Swimming sensation broke all the records and overtook Mark Spitz’s record tally.
But one athelete who deserved equal media attention but didn’t get was Usain Bolt. He broke all the World and Olympic Records by a huge margin but unfortunately the broken records was mostly by Americans! Hard-Luck for this Jamaican.

8. Batman and Joker
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight was a very different one than expected. It created an example all by itself by the Viral Marketing campaign and became the #1 Grossing movie for this year. Collections of US $ 1 Billion is truly appreciating in a time of global recession, Piracy and File Sharing. Death of Heath Ledger gave an ominous positive fillip to the movie-goers but the characterization of Batman and especially the Joker deserves full honor.

US Politics FAQ: A Child’s Guide to US Foreign Policy

Q: Daddy, why did we have to attack Iraq?
A: Because they had weapons of mass destruction honey.

Q: But the inspectors didn’t find any weapons of mass destruction.
A: That’s because the Iraqis were hiding them.

Q: And that’s why we invaded Iraq?
A: Yep. Invasions always work better than inspections.

Q: But after we invaded them, we STILL didn’t find any weapons of mass destruction, did we?
A: That’s because the weapons are so well hidden. Don’t worry, we’ll find something, probably right before the 2008 election.

Q: Why did Iraq want all those weapons of mass destruction?
A: To use them in a war, silly. Read the rest of this entry »
